Udakavaha srota

Udakavaha srota refers to the channels responsible for carrying water within the body.

Udakavaha srota refers to the channels responsible for carrying water within the body.

Functions: Carries water and other liquids such as juices of liver and pancreas etc.

Controlling Organs: 

• Upper palate of mouth
• Pancreas

Causes of vitiation:

• Drinking poor quality of water (with impurities, with excess chlorine etc.)
• Drinking aerated drinks 
• Exposure to heat
• Heat stroke
• Indigestion
• Excessive intoxication
• Eating extremely dry foods
• Remaining thirsty

Symptoms of srota vitiation:

• Dry lips and tongue, cracking of tongue
• Pigmentation of tongue
• Dry palate or excess salivation
• Dry throat
• Inflammation of lips and tongue
• Blisters in mouth
• White coating on tongue
• Ringing of ears
• Polyps or cancer of the mouth
• Anaemia
• Dehydration
• Anorexia
• Ascites (collection of fluid in abdomen)

Link with Doshas: 

Even though the vitiation in udakavaha srota can occur because of imbalance in any of the doshas but in case of vitiation of Kapha, the manifestation of symptoms of the srota vitiation is likely to occur faster.

Treatment: 

• Treatments done for excessive thirst
• Balanced diet - correcting food and lifestyle according to one's body type
• Drinking water as per the need of the body - not in excess nor less than what is required
• Panchkarma cleaning depending on the type of imbalance
