Possible Causes:
- Emotional eating
- Overeating
- Eating wrong food combinations
Indigestion leads to:
- Excess secretion of acid
- Heartburn
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Fermentation of food in stomach and intestine
- Gas, bloating
- Stomach ache
Recommendations:
- Before each meal chew a little fresh ginger with a few drops of lime juice and some salt.
- Take ¼ tsp of garlic powder, ½ tsp of trikatu and a pinch of rock salt before lunch and dinner.
- Take 1 clove of fresh garlic chopped, ¼ tsp of cumin powder, pinch of rock salt, a pinch of trikatu, 1 tsp of lime juice. This is to be taken before every meal.
- Steep ½ tsp of ground bay leaf in a cup of water for 10 minutes. Add a pinch of cardamom and drink it after eating.
- Fasting can be helpful in case of indigestion.
- If not observing a complete fast - take 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice with a pinch of ginger, a pinch of black pepper and ½ tsp of organic sugar thrice a day.
- Take ¼ cup of fresh onion juice with ½ tsp honey and ½ tsp of black pepper to cure indigestion.
- Chop a fresh garlic clove, add a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda to it and eat it.
- In acute cases, squeeze juice of ¼ lime in 1 cup warm water, Add ½ tsp of baking soda right before drinking.
- In chronic cases, take ¼ tsp of mixture of trikatu, chitrak and kutki in 1:2:1 before meals with a little honey and a fresh ginger juice.
Recommendations for prevention of indigestion:
- Don't eat unless you are hungry.
- Avoid snacking in between meals.
- Avoid cold and iced drinks especially during or after meals.
- Take small sips of warm water during a meal.
- Eat only till ⅓ of your capacity.
- Chew your food well.
- Finish your meal with a small glass of lassi. Lassi should be made by blending 4 tsp of yogurt, 2 pinches of ginger and cumin powder in 1 cup of water.
- Do regular exercise and pranayama.
